Two things. Installation: a round canopy hangs from one central ceiling hook; a box canopy hangs from four ceiling hooks in a rectangle. Aesthetic: round drapes outward in a soft bell shape (the romantic, princess-canopy look); box creates the structured four poster bed look with straight sides. Both cover the bed properly — the choice is really about which look suits the room.

Do I need a four poster bed for a round canopy?
No. The round canopy is specifically designed to work over an ordinary bed with no special frame — it only needs a single hook in the ceiling. This is one of the most popular reasons customers choose round: they want the canopy look without buying new furniture.
